Fight against Asian hornets
The Asian hornet is a non-endemic invasive species which is classified among the pest species to be destroyed. In this context and in order to coordinate the fight, the town hall of Sainte-Mère-Eglise has signed an agreement with the FDGDON 50, who, after reporting, is responsible for destroying the nests of Asian hornets. This is free for individuals or companies in the new municipality. Unlike other species (European hornets, wasps, bees) the Asian hornet can be dangerous for humans because it is not limited to protecting its nest and pursues to attack any person or animal as soon as it senses a potential threat, and this can continue for several hundred meters. Nests can be found both in tree tops and in places as unusual as recycling bins, granges, auto wrecks, hedges, tall grass area, rainwater network….
Asian hornet nest reports must be made to the Municipal Police or to the Town Hall of Sainte-Mère-Eglise.
You will find opposite an identification sheet planned in the fight against Asian hornets. This must be presented to the town hall when reporting.
